Park Overview

Carowinds sits on the border between North and South Carolina, with a Charlotte mailing address. The park says it has welcomed families for 50 years and runs more than 60 rides, Camp Snoopy for younger kids, live entertainment, and Carolina Harbor, a 26 acre water park. Fury 325, its signature giga coaster, crosses the state line on every ride. Carowinds is now part of Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, so its official pages, tickets, and accessibility information live on sixflags.com.

Two things shape an accessible day here. The first is that the park publishes an unusually detailed Guest Accessibility Guide, with named transfer devices, body harness options, wheelchair lifts, and per-ride cast rules. The second is that the program itself is thinly described online: how waits and party size work is explained in person at North Gate Guest Services. Tickets & Passes

Day Tickets and Season Passes

Carowinds sells single-day tickets and season passes online, and the park advertises free parking as a season pass benefit. If you are planning more than one visit, compare the pass against paying for admission and parking twice.

Fast Lane (Not an Accessibility Product)

Fast Lane is the park's paid line-skip add-on. It is not a disability accommodation and you do not need it to use the Attraction Accessibility Program. The guide does use the Fast Lane entrance as one of the Alternate Access Entrances at some rides, which is a boarding route, not a purchase.

Accessibility: The Attraction Accessibility Program

Carowinds' accommodation for guests with mobility restrictions or cognitive impairments is the Attraction Accessibility Program. The park encourages guests to register first for the free IBCCES Accessibility Card at AccessibilityCard.org, which asks for a statement from a healthcare provider and should be done at least 48 hours before your visit. On arrival you present the card at North Gate Guest Services, answer questions about the physical criteria for riding, and receive the details of how the program works for you.

The park is clear that the program "does not provide immediate boarding onto attractions," and every guest still has to meet every ride requirement.

The short version: register for the card at home, go to North Gate Guest Services first, ask for the list of rides you can safely ride, and get your questions about waits and companions answered before the first queue.

Wheelchair & ECV Rental

The 2026 guide says a limited supply of wheelchairs, ECVs, and strollers rent at all park entrances, first come, first served, and cannot be reserved. The park's rentals page, on the other hand, sells an Electric Wheelchair plus Canopy rental online for $65 plus a processing fee of up to $9.99 and taxes. If you need a powered chair, the online purchase is the safer bet; confirm it with the park before you travel. Rentals cannot leave the park or go to the parking lot. The park still urges guests to bring their own device, and you can recharge a wheelchair battery at Guest Services.

Parking

  • Accessible parking is first come, first served in the main lots, with both auto and van accessible spaces.
  • Ask the team member at the parking toll booth where the accessible lot is, and keep a valid placard or plate displayed.
  • If the accessible area is full, your party can be dropped off at the main pick-up and drop-off area near the main entrance.

A Carowinds day is a long, hot one on open midways, and Carolina Harbor will soak anyone who goes near it.

  • Portable charger: your digital IBCCES card and your tickets live on your phone.
  • Noise-canceling headphones: sensory headphones may be accommodated on select rides, so ask the rides team member.
  • A waist pack: loose items are not allowed in line at Fury 325 or Copperhead Strike, and a waist pack or cargo pocket is how small items ride with you.
  • An athletic strap for glasses: required on Air Racers, Copperhead Strike, Electro Spin, Gear Spin, RipCord, and Sling Shot.
  • Swimwear without metal: Carolina Harbor does not allow swimwear with metal buttons, rivets, zippers, or snaps.
  • A small cooler, if medically needed: outside food is not allowed, but guests with medical dietary needs may bring small coolers. Check in at Guest Services.
