Park Overview

Knott's Berry Farm is located in Buena Park, California - right in the heart of Orange County, about 5 miles from Disneyland and accessible via Interstate 5 or the 91 Freeway. The park sits on the grounds of the original Knott's berry farm and roadside stand that Walter Knott built in the 1920s. Today it's a full-scale regional theme park owned by Cedar Fair (now part of the Six Flags/Cedar Fair merged company).

Location: 8039 Beach Blvd, Buena Park, CA 90620
Best time to visit: Weekdays in September, October (outside Knott's Scary Farm nights), January, and February. Summer weekdays are manageable. Avoid major holidays and Scary Farm weekends.
Hours: Typically 10am–6pm on slower days, 10am–10pm on peak summer/holiday days. Verify current hours on the official Knott's website before visiting.

Tickets & Pricing

General Admission

Gate prices run $50–$99 depending on the date. Knott's uses demand-based pricing aggressively - the same day on a Saturday costs notably more than a Wednesday. Buy online at least a few days out for the best rate. Southern California residents can sometimes find discounted rates through AAA or local partners.

Season Pass / All-Season Pass

Knott's All-Season Pass starts around $99 and covers the whole year. The Gold Pass adds parking. If you're visiting twice or more, the math works out quickly. Cedar Fair's Platinum Pass covers all Cedar Fair/Six Flags properties nationwide - a good deal if you travel to other parks.

Fast Lane

Knott's Fast Lane is their line-skip system - a wristband that lets you access dedicated shorter queues on most major rides. Fast Lane Plus includes more rides and allows multiple uses. Pricing ranges $50–$85+ per person depending on attendance level. It's particularly useful during summer and Scary Farm season. See our Fast Lane comparison guide.

One-Day Strategy

Knott's is more compact than Magic Mountain, making it slightly easier to manage. The full strategy is in our One-Day Strategy guide. Key priorities:

  • Arrive 30 minutes before open. Xcelerator and HangTime see the longest waits by mid-morning.
  • Hit Xcelerator, HangTime, and GhostRider in the first 90 minutes.
  • Montezooma's Revenge and Sierra Sidewinder mid-morning before the surge hits.
  • Lunch in the Ghost Town area - Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant is a park institution.
  • Timber Mountain Log Ride and Calico Mine Ride in the afternoon (lower wait, good recovery).
  • Re-ride favorites in the final hour as crowds begin to thin.

What to Bring

  • Sunscreen: Buena Park gets hot and sunny. Reapply throughout the day.
  • Comfortable walking shoes: Plan for 4–6 miles of walking.
  • Small backpack: Some rides have lockers; others have bins. Pack light but smart.
  • Water bottle: Free water available at food stands - just ask.
  • A layer for evening: Even in summer, coastal SoCal evenings cool off.

Food Worth Knowing About

Knott's has genuinely good food compared to most theme parks. Don't skip:

  • Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant - The original. Fried chicken, biscuits, boysenberry pie. A Knott's institution since 1934. Usually requires a reservation or substantial wait.
  • Spurs Chophouse - Solid burgers and fries in the Boardwalk area.
  • Boysenberry treats - Try the boysenberry lemonade or soft-serve. It's their signature.

Hotels Nearby

Buena Park has abundant hotels within walking distance or a short drive. The area benefits from proximity to Disneyland, so competition keeps prices reasonable. See our full Knott's hotel guide.
