Double Shot

Tower Launch & Drop · Height: 52"

⚠️ Policies change. Always verify current requirements directly with the park before your visit.

Overview

Double Shot is the Boardwalk's tower attraction - an S&S compressed-air launch tower that blasts riders upward from the base and then drops them multiple times in a series of bouncing air-brake sequences. Set against the backdrop of Monterey Bay, the views from the top of Double Shot are spectacular. On a clear day you can see the Santa Cruz coastline extending north and the mountains to the east. The ride itself is quick and intense; the setting elevates it into something genuinely memorable.

What to Expect

You're seated in a ring around the central tower column, facing outward over the boardwalk and ocean. The compressed-air launch sends riders skyward with a satisfying thump of acceleration. At the top, you experience momentary weightlessness before the controlled drop begins - not a free fall, but a series of air-braked bounces that gradually return you to the ground. The whole experience takes about 10–15 seconds of actual ride time, but those seconds feel rich given the ocean views and the contrast between acceleration and near-weightlessness.

Accessibility

The seating arrangement is a ring configuration that typically accommodates most rider body types. Riders must transfer from mobility devices. The restraint is a lap bar and shoulder harness combination. The 52-inch height requirement applies. Due to the launch forces, guests should assess their comfort with sudden vertical acceleration before riding.

Tips

Best time is morning (first 1–2 hours) before the midday crowds arrive. Double Shot is visible from much of the boardwalk - the crowd it draws fluctuates based on how many people are watching. Sit in a seat facing the ocean if possible for the best view at the top. The ride is relatively short - re-rides are feasible with short waits in the evening.

Nearby Rides

The Giant Dipper is the natural companion ride - both are high-priority morning attractions. Typhoon is nearby for a water-based follow-up. The midway arcade in the casino building is steps away for post-ride decompression.
