Park Overview

Six Flags Magic Mountain sits in Valencia, California - about 35 miles north of downtown Los Angeles via Interstate 5. The park spans over 260 acres and has spent decades accumulating world-class coasters, earning its reputation as the Thrill Capital of the World.

Location: 26101 Magic Mountain Pkwy, Valencia, CA 91355
Best time to visit: Weekdays outside of summer, especially September–November. Spring weekdays (March–May) are also excellent. Avoid summer weekends and holiday periods if crowds are a concern.
Hours: Hours vary significantly by season. Check the official Six Flags website before your visit - summer weekends often run 10:30am–10pm while winter weekdays may be 10:30am–6pm.

Tickets & Pricing

General Admission

Single-day tickets purchased at the gate run $39–$89 depending on the date. Buying online in advance through the Six Flags website typically saves $10–$30. Day-of pricing is highest on summer weekends. If you're planning one visit, buy online at least a few days ahead.

Season Pass

If you're visiting more than twice in a year, the Six Flags Season Pass pays for itself quickly. Base passes start around $79–$99 for the full season. Premium and Platinum tiers add parking and in-park discounts. Gold/Platinum passes include access to all Six Flags parks nationwide.

Flash Pass

Flash Pass is Six Flags' reservation-based line-skip system. You reserve a spot in the virtual queue, wait off-ride, and return when it's your turn. Three tiers: Regular (same wait as standby but from anywhere in the park), Gold (cut wait time in half), Platinum (minimal wait, ride twice). Pricing varies by park attendance level - expect $50–$100+ per person per day for Gold/Platinum. Worth it on peak summer weekends; less necessary on slow weekdays. See our Flash Pass comparison guide for the full breakdown.

One-Day Strategy

The key to Magic Mountain is ruthless prioritization in the morning hours. See our full One-Day Strategy guide for the complete hour-by-hour breakdown. In brief:

  • Arrive 30–45 minutes before park open. Park opens gates 15–20 minutes early on busy days.
  • Head immediately to Twisted Colossus or X2 - these have the longest waits by 10:30am.
  • Hit Superman: Escape from Krypton and Tatsu before noon.
  • Lunch break 11:30am–12:30pm while crowds peak at rides.
  • Afternoons: Batman, Full Throttle, Goliath, Scream!
  • Return to Twisted Colossus or X2 in the final 90 minutes - evening crowds often drop.

What to Bring

Magic Mountain is a full-day outdoor park in Southern California. Proper gear makes a huge difference:

  • Sunscreen: Reapply every 2 hours. You'll be in direct Southern California sun all day.
  • Comfortable shoes: You'll walk 5–8 miles. No new shoes on park day.
  • Small backpack: For sunscreen, snacks, a light layer, and your portable charger. Must fit in ride lockers (most rides require it).
  • Water bottle: Water stations throughout the park. Staying hydrated is critical in the heat.
  • Light jacket/layer: Evening temperatures drop, especially in fall.
  • Cash or card for lockers: Major coasters require paid lockers ($1–$2 per use).
